You can spend the day and combine several destinations like the Frasassi Caves is a 90 mins drive north from the farmhouse, you must get your tickets  prior to arriving if you are coming during the high season, May-Sept.

Visit San Marino  another country within Italy, 2 hours north, and find out how this tiny country has maintained it’s independence though the centuries. If you are into swords this is the place for you. Plan to go around lunch time and eat off one of the many balconies and enjoy the amazing  view.

Visit Sirolo with it’s spectacular view of the Adriatic Sea high above the beautiful beaches of San Michele and Urbini, it’s about an hour and 15 minutes drive from the farmhouse.

Visit Ancona our large port town just 1 hour from the farmhouse it has a cathedral that you can visit. Some buildings in town offer Gothic architecture and there is still a cannon new the Arch of Trajan you can visit. You can also take a overnight Ferry (11hrs) over to Croatia on the other side of the Adriatic Sea. It does not run all year so make sure you check the schedules here.

Visit Urbino which is an impressive walled  city in our region of Le Marche just 2 hrs drive north of the farmhouse. The Duomo is quite impressive and the architecture and  culture in the city is beautiful.

Visit Recanati which is one of my personal favourites, just 40 mins from the farmhouse. Driving back on A-14 the main highway along the sea coming from the north you will be able to see the splendour of the city from the outside, at sunset it’s just breathtaking. But go into the city which is  the birthplace of Giacomo Taldegardo Francesco di Sales Saverio Pietro Leopardi he was an Italian philosopher, poet, essayist, and philologist. He is widely seen as one of the most radical and challenging thinkers of the 19th century. The strongly lyrical quality of his poetry made him a central figure on the European and international literary and cultural landscape. You can take a tour of his home and library which are very impressive and the city streets are lined with some of his poetry on the rock walls.

Visit Civitanova-Marche our local beach town just 30 mins drive from the farmhouse. Shopping is found at a large modern mall similar to those you would find in the US. There is a large outdoor market every Saturday morning in the main square, you can find linens, shoes, food trucks etc. During the summer it is the place to be the beach is perfect for swimming and sailing. You will want to arrive early to find parking and then pick out a restaurant that looks inviting to you and go in and rent 2 beach chairs or loungers plus 1 umbrella for about 18 euro per day. It is yours for the day and no one else will use it so  you can come and go if you like. Our favourite restaurant to eat at while there is Locanda Sul Mare we have been going there for years and never disappointed. For lunch you might get a table just by walking in but for dinner you need to call or email for reservations, take one of our business cards with you from the farmhouse and tell them we sent you it might help get you in if they are busy. August is when all of Europe vacations on the beaches so be prepared for waiting  for everything during August. We suggest you end your time there at Gigi’s gelato in the main square, our favourite gelato stop in Le Marche.

Visit Macerata which is our region capital and there we do any major business just a 30 mins drive. This has a large University which is in charge of the excavation of the Roman Ruins near the farmhouse in Ubisalgia. The Cathedral is quite beautiful as well as the 2 main piazza’s. There is a large outdoor market held every Wednesday with everything from T-shirts to local cheese and meats.

It’s also home to the amazing Sferisterio an outdoor theatre that you MUST attend while you are here if there is anything going on. We attend the opera festival that happens every year the end of July through the first part of August.

Obviously you won’t be able to visit all these places in one day but this should help you pick and choose 2 or 3 for a nice day trip.
