1 Fabulous Day at the Royal Palace in Torino Italy!

September 15, 2018

We all love to see how the "Rich and Famous" live or in this case used to live in Italy, this is a good place to start.

With our home base here in Colmurano we have the pleasure of being close to so many amazing places here in Italy and all of Europe. So we decided to spend Justice's Easter vacation from school in Torino (Turin in English). Torino is in the northern Piedmont region and we live in the Le Marche region which is southeast and a 6 hr train ride. OH the trains in Italy, my goodness they are not for the faint hearted, so unless you are very quick and adventurous I suggest another method for getting around Italy. More on the trains and other transportation in a future article. Thank God Justice is such a good traveler and let's just say Rick did not get off with us at one point!

Torino was the was the first capital city of Italy from 1861 to 1865 and is still an important business and cultural centre. The city is located mainly on the western bank of the Po River, in front of Susa Valley, and is surrounded by the western Alpine arch and Superga Hill. The entire urban areas population is a little less then 2 million.

The city is well known for it's rich culture and history, its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, opera houses, piazzas, parks, gardens, theatres, libraries, museums and other venues. A part of the historical center of Torino was inscribed in the World Heritage List under the name Residences of the Royal House of Savoy. The university of Torino was founded in the 15th century. Torino is ranked 3rd in Italy for it's economic strength after Rome and Milan.

With so many things to choose from we decided to devote a day to the Royal Palace and Armoury. After doing my research and gearing up for things Justice would appreciate being 7 years old, I knew the Armoury would fit the bill. Not having much of an interest in weapons myself I must admit I was astonished and throughly impressed with the craftsmanship and artistry that we witnessed there. Totally surprised me how much I enjoyed visiting that area of the Palace. Our guide in the Palace was Monica from Get Your Guides, we use them all over the world and have great success! Check out the links below.

The rest of the Palace was amazing too as you will see from the video that I put together below. Please subscribe to our YouTube channel after you watch the video.

Be on the look out for more about our week in Torino in future blogs as well as our other crazy adventures here in Italy and the world. Working on our Malta blog now...November we will be heading to South America and cruising around Cape Horn, so excited!!!

About Us

Susan here along with my husband Rick and our grandson Justice.  We are both in our 60's raising our second or third family, we have lost count. Starting out in 2000 as a blended family, Rick came with 2 teenage children and me with 6 children and 2 grandchildren when we met.  We currently have 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandson's. So it has been many years of putting our lives together with all the chaos involved. HA! HA! HA!
