Lake Como is it over rated?

Hello Everyone

Sorry I have been silent for awhile, still getting things back on track after our 4 months of continuous travel which you will hear more about at another time.

Living in Italy we are constantly being asked about Lake Como and so I am finally putting it down on paper, well not really since no one uses that anymore 😀 Our Farmhouse which is a vacation rental, Casa Tre Querce Italy, and Village where we currently live Colmurano are a 5 hours drive to Lake Como. You hear about celebrities getting married there and it makes it just that much more interesting to us all. In fact one of Rick's cousins just got married there this year with the big wedding and fireworks over the lake and whole big deal. We were not invited unfortunately but we did see pictures.

So lets start by saying yes it is beautiful and everyone should see it at least once in their lives but I must say that there are many other Lakes and places here in Italy that are just as beautiful if not more and much less expensive to visit. Also don't expect the same Italian hospitality that you find in the rest of the country since it is so close to Switzerland you will be greeted with a much cooler attitude. But having said that here are the musts to do if you find yourself there.

Lake Como is in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, is an area known for its dramatic scenery, set against the foothills of the Alps. The lake is shaped like an upside-down Y, with three branches that meet at the resort town of Bellagio. At the bottom of the southwest branch lies the city of Como, home to Renaissance architecture and a funicular that travels up to the mountain town of Brunate.

Our favorite things to do there include renting a Venetian boat and have a driver take us around the lake click here

Tour the Villas on the Shoreline:

Make sure you have lunch on the small island in the middle of the lake at Locanda dell'Isola Comacina it is truly an experience and reservations are a must. Years ago on a recommendation by friends we went in March for our anniversary and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The owner provided the most amazing experience we will never forget. They have a set menu that has not changed since 1945 and I have never ate some much in my entire life and probably never will again. We were there four hours and it was the highlight of our trip to Lake Como.

So I am not trying to dissuade you from going but just encouraging you not to spend too much of your Italian vacation time there as the rest of the country has so much more beauty and loving attitudes to offer you.

Until next time always enjoy your journey wherever it leads you,

Susan, Rick and Justice
