What are you doing for Thanksgiving??? Pandemic messed up your plans??? Well, we decided to try something different this year. 12 hours from NOW we will have hopefully landed in Costa Rica and be at our hotel getting a few hours sleep before heading out to show Jim, Nancy and Nathan (our newest friends here in Florida) the sights near San Jose Costa Rica.
Since Costa Rica opened to all tourists on November 1st we made a quick decision to head down there for the holiday week. We have other American friends that are going to their house as well so there will be 8 of us celebrating Thanksgiving in Costa Rica together. They insisted on doing the traditional turkey dinner and fixings so we are bringing a pumpkin custard for dessert. I packed two cans of pumpkin filling in our suit case today and still have to measure out the spices to bag up to take down as some of them are impossible to find there.
We have been going to Costa Rica for 18 years and when we finished building our house (ShortsNFlipFlops) there 16 years ago Rick promised that from then on we would just pack a carryon bag with essentials and never have to bring a suit case again. đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł Well, I reminded him this week AGAIN of that conversation many years ago as he was telling me we needed to take down some plumbing supplies that our house manager said we needed. Over the years we have taken many suit cases filled with sheets and towels because we could not find the quality there that our guests expected in a vacation rental.
Also every year we have taken cases of light bulbs for the indirect lighting fixtures because they are nearly impossible to find there. But the clincher was the year we needed more shelving in our bodega (storage room). Rick wrapped up 10' long white wire closet shelving and took it as carryon to the airport. REALLY sadly there are no pictures to prove it because I was so embarrassed I didn't even want to admit I was with him. I know I am terrible ... I just knew they would tell him NO but they didn't and we proceeded to board the plane with them and then sit at our 2 hr layover with them and board yet another flight.
Under today's flight concerns and issues I dare say we would never try to bring something like that on board again. I am still waiting for that elusive flight that was promised all those years ago where we would not have to pack or bring anything because we have clothes down there already. I will certainly let you know if that day ever arrives. It will obviously not be for many years to come since Justice arrived permanently in our lives years ago he grows so much from year to year that I have to bring a wardrobe for him and of course toys to play with because each year he outgrows them as well. But we have at least gotten it down to just one checked bag this year, luckily he lives in his bathing suit most of the time. đ
