About Us

Family travel blog.

Susan here along with my husband Rick our grandson Justice and our newest addition Sunny.  We are both in our 60's raising our second or third family, we have lost count. Starting out in 2000 as a blended family, Rick came with 2 teenage children and me with 6 children and 2 grandchildren when we met.  We currently have 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandson's. So it has been many years of putting our lives together with all the chaos involved. HA! HA! HA!

We both were self employed  when we met, I owned an insurance business in El Dorado Hills, you may have been one of my clients, HELLO. Rick owned a business selling reading machines to people with macular degeneration and other eye related diseases. So in 2012 we both sold our businesses and basically everything we had in the US and moved out of the country. Partly to see if our children might grow up a little while we were away. But mostly because we wanted a big change and I felt called to go to Viet Nam for awhile and volunteer in an orphanage. Rick asked me to go back and check with God to see if he really meant Viet Nam. Yes HE did.

I have to say once I got Rick there he never wanted to leave, he loved the culture, people, his job teaching English and mostly the food. Me not so much. I did however love the kids at the orphanage and enjoyed the cultural experiences which were different everyday. My main goal was to get to a point where I could drive by Independent Palace with out crying. The short version is my father had done 3 tours in Viet Nam as a Marine during my childhood and I had some issues to deal with regarding that, and I did.

But after one and a half years I was done and ready to move on and Rick was happy to stay, so I bribed him with Italy and it worked. Here we proceeded to buy our Farmhouse and begin a business  which is part of another story for another time.

Now we have moved back to the US and call Venice Florida our home. The background picture here is Venice beach which we love only being 12 mins drive from it.

We look forward to sharing more with you about our lives, lessons we have learned both good and bad and maybe impart some advice on subjects specific to our travels around the world.

Until next time…
